Congressman Michael Burgess to Address Denton County Republicans August 17th at New Meeting Location

Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D., will address the monthly meeting of the Denton County Republican Party at its new meeting location, the Denton County Elections Administration office located at 701 Kimberly Drive, Suite A101, Denton, TX 76208 on Thursday, August 17, 2017. The Congressman is expected to give an update on the latest legislative news from Washington, D.C.

The DCRP meeting will be called to order by Chairman Lisa Hendrickson promptly at 7:00 p.m. Immediately prior to the meeting at 6:00 p.m., there will be a social hour for meeting attendees hosted by Congressman Burgess.  Both the social hour and the meeting are open to all interested Republicans.

First elected to Congress in 2002, Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D., represents the 26th district of Texas on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee where he serves as Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health.  He also sits on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and the Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection.  In addition, Dr. Burgess is a member of the Rules Committee and the Helsinki Commission.

As of the 115th Congress, Congressman Burgess is the most senior medical doctor, on both sides of the aisle, serving in the House of Representatives.  Throughout his years in Congress, he has been a strong advocate for health care legislation aimed at reducing health care costs, improving choices, reforming liability laws to put the needs of patients first, and ensuring there are enough doctors in the public and private sector to care for America’s patients and veterans.

During his time on Capitol Hill, Dr. Burgess has received several awards, including the Guardian of Small Business award by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB); the Spirit of Enterprise award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and the Taxpayer Hero award from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste; among others. In 2013, he was named to Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders.

Before heading to Congress, Burgess practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lewisville, Texas.  He delivered more than 3,000 babies during his nearly 30 years in private practice. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his residency programs at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.  Dr. Burgess also received a Masters degree in Medical Management from the University of Texas at Dallas, and in May of 2009 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Burgess has been married to his wife, Laura, for over 40 years, and they have three children and two grandsons.
