DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR TEXAS ARMED SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP
AUSTIN – Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, has extended the deadline to be considered for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship, which awards students who are committed to both education and service with $10,000 per academic year towards undergraduate education at any Texas university with an active ROTC program. To be eligible, a student must live in SD 12 and meet two of the following four academic criteria:
- Be on track to graduate high school in a Distinguished Achievement Program or International Baccalaureate program;
- A high school GPA of 3.0 or higher;
- Ranked in the top third of their high school graduating class, and;
- SAT score of 1590 or ACT score of 23
The student must also enroll in an eligible Texas institution and ROTC program, commit to remain in the ROTC program for four years, to graduate within five years, and to enter Guard service or the armed services within six months of graduation from college. They must also meet the program’s physical fitness requirements.
“As the daughter of a World War II veteran, it is very important to me to recognize and support those who dedicate themselves to service to our country,” said Senator Nelson. “I encourage all eligible SD 12 constituents to apply and I’m sure the decision will not be an easy one.”
