U.S. Senator Cornyn – Thankful but Vigilant

Dear Friends –

I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.  As Texans, we have much to be thankful for this year.  However, we cannot rest on our laurels.

Senate Democrats this week attempted to infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners by declaring gun violence a public health epidemic.  We all know this is a ruse.  As a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Cornyn swiftly rebuked these efforts.  The following news article covers the exchange pretty well: U.S. Sen. John Cornyn fights against labeling guns a public health crisis.

It wasn’t the only time Senate Democrats tried to impose their liberal agenda this week.  Democratic Senator Durbin, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, decided to ram through far-left radical judicial nominees without giving Republicans the opportunity to debate them.  During a Senate Judiciary Committee markup, Sen. Cornyn angrily blasted this move.  Full remarks as follows:

Sen. Cornyn: “Mr. Chairman, you just destroyed one of the most important committees in the United States Senate. You have set a precedent which will be repeated every time one party or the other takes advantage and takes the low road – it sets a precedent that will then become the norm. Congratulations on destroying the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Finally, our southern border is a mess thanks to the Biden Administration’s disastrous policies – aka the “Biden Border Crisis,” as the Senator refers to it.  Sen. Cornyn reinforced his call for the resignation of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.  Moreover, the Senator supports tying substantive border security policy changes to the national security supplemental funding bill.  Sen. Cornyn spoke on this matter twice on the floor of the Senate this week, where he also stressed the importance of funding for Israel (see releases below).

Please feel free to share this email with anyone you think may be interested, and don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any feedback for the Senator.

For Texas!
Brian

VIDEO: Cornyn on the Biden Border Crisis: ‘Enough is Enough’

‘Enough is enough. We’re not going to proceed to this emergency supplemental that the President has asked for unless and until policy changes are made.’

The City of Eagle Pass has lost at least $500,000 during a closure of a bridge due to the influx of migrants.’

‘We’re not going to miss this opportunity to get true policy changes which help stem the flow of illegal migration across the border.’

WASHINGTON – Today on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) stressed the need for substantive policy changes in any supplemental funding bill to address the crisis at our southern border after a key international bridge in Eagle Pass was closed to allow Customs and Border Patrol officers to process another influx of migrants. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“We have a 1,200 mile common border with Mexico, and illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and everything that goes along with it has been something that we’ve had to live with.”

“We have been met with complete intransigence by the Biden administration and by the majority here in the Senate when it comes to solving some of these problems.”

“Enough is enough. We’re not going to proceed to this emergency supplemental that the President has asked for unless and until policy changes are made.”

“Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas has said that the City of Eagle Pass has lost at least $500,000 during a closure of a bridge due to the influx of migrants.”

“The benefits of that trade and legitimate commerce are being denied because resources at our bridges and ports of entry are being overwhelmed.”

“We’re not going to miss this opportunity to get true policy changes which help stem the flow of illegal migration across the border.”

“Secretary Mayorkas, who’s been an absolute, unmitigated disaster as Secretary of Homeland Security… continues to show up, testify under oath, and to lie when he says the border is secure. Anybody with eyes in their head can tell that that’s not true.”

“We’re not going anywhere on this supplemental appropriation bill until and unless acceptable provisions are made to change the policies that currently implement the Biden Border Crisis and to staunch the flow of drugs and people across the border.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.

Cornyn Reiterates Call for Border Policy Changes in National Security Supplemental

‘We need to… address the supplemental funding bill that the President has proposed.’

‘The price of getting this done will also include major policy changes at the border.’

‘My state is on the front line of the Biden Border Crisis, and it is getting worse by the day.’

WASHINGTON – Today on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed the Senate’s lengthy end-of-year to-do list and reiterated his call for any national security supplemental funding bill to include substantive border policy changes. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“The end of the year is always a busy time here in Congress.”

“First, the Congress needs to do something that we’ve done for 62 consecutive years, and that is finally pass the National Defense Authorization Act.”

“The second thing we need to do is address the supplemental funding bill that the President has proposed.”

“I’m a little mystified why the Majority Leader decided not to take up the Israel funding that was passed several weeks ago.”

“I understand he doesn’t like the pay-for that the House has proposed. One logical thing to do would be to propose a different pay-for and to put it on the Senate floor so we can talk about it, vote about it, and get it done.”

“The part that I think our Democratic leadership is in denial about is the price of getting this done will also include major policy changes at the border.”

“My state is on the front line of the Biden Border Crisis, and it is getting worse by the day.”

“This is something that is unsustainable and must be addressed, and we are going to do that in the context of these funding bills.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
