U.S. Senator Cornyn – “We must stand with Israel”

Dear Friends –

It’s been a month since Hamas terrorists invaded parts of Israel, massacring more than 1,400 innocent civilians and abducting close to 240 hostages.  Sen. Cornyn remains resolved to support Israel in its fight against Hamas while also taking steps to secure our own southern border.

As for supporting Israel, Sen. Cornyn urged Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to hold a vote on the $14.3 billion Israel aid and domestic spending cuts package that passed the House of Representatives last week; and he blasted Sen. Schumer for calling the House’s Israel aid bill a “joke” (see press release below).

The October 7th terrorist attack in Israel is also a sobering reminder that we must be vigilant for threats here at home.  Unfortunately, the Biden Administration’s disastrous border policies have increased the threat.  It’s reported that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have encountered a record number of individuals on the FBI terror watchlist at the southern border.

Sen. Cornyn recently noted in his op-ed on Fox News: “More than 6.2 million migrants have illegally crossed the southern border since President Biden took office. On top of that, at least 1.5 million ‘gotaways’ evaded law enforcement entirely. This administration’s goal has never been to fix the border crisis but to simply hide the evidence. To that end, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has tried to ‘legalize’ illegal immigration by funneling migrants into unlawful release […] and we have no idea how many or what kind of people are entering the United States through this boondoggle.”

This is why Sen. Cornyn led 26 of his Senate Republican colleagues in introducing the Southern Border Transparency Act, which would require DHS to report how many migrants are released into our country through President Biden’s catch-and-release “parole” programs.  Additionally, Sen. Cornyn continues to call for an end to catch-and-release, and insist on consequences for those entering the country illegally.  See press releases below for more details.

Sen. Cornyn believes that America must provide aid to our ally Israel as well as take necessary steps to safeguard our national security interests here and abroad.  In the weeks ahead, the Senator will be involved in legislative efforts to achieve these goals.  Stay tuned and feel free to share this email with anyone you think may be interested.  As always, don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any feedback for the Senator.

For Texas!

Brian

News Releases from Senator John Cornyn

VIDEO: Cornyn Blasts Schumer for Calling Israel Aid Bill a ‘Joke’

‘Last week, the House of Representatives passed a bill to strengthen America’s support for Israel while cutting wasteful government spending.’

‘I’m disappointed that President Biden… threatened to veto the bill, and Senator Schumer went so far as to call it a joke.’

‘$14.3 billion for Israel while it’s under perhaps an existential threat by Iran and its proxies, and the Majority Leader of the United States Senate calls that $14.3 billion a joke?’

WASHINGTON – Today on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) blasted the Democratic Majority Leader for refusing to allow a vote on the $14.3 billion Israel aid and domestic spending cuts package that passed the House of Representatives last week and admonished President Biden for threatening to veto the bill. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“Last week, the House of Representatives passed a bill to strengthen America’s support for Israel while cutting wasteful government spending.”

“I’m disappointed that President Biden – first thing out of the chute – threatened to veto the bill, and Senator Schumer went so far as to call it a joke. $14.3 billion for Israel while it’s under perhaps an existential threat by Iran and its proxies, and the Majority Leader of the United States Senate calls that $14.3 billion a joke?”

“I don’t think there’s anything funny about the strong desire that most of us have to support our ally while protecting the long-term financial health of our country.”

“Despite the Majority Leader’s current refusal to allow a vote on the House bill – that’s his current position, one I hope will change – the fact remains we do need to take action.”

“The Senate must find a path forward to strengthen our support for Israel and Ukraine while making meaningful steps to address the out-of-control crisis at our southern border. Senate Republicans are discussing ways to do this in a thorough and thoughtful manner, and I expect that to remain a focus of our work for the next couple of weeks.”

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, is a member of the Senate Finance, Intelligence, and Judiciary Committees.
