FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 14, 2025

Denton County Republican Party Elects New Chairwoman, Melinda Preston DENTON, TX — The Denton County Republican Party (DCRP) is proud to announce the election of Melinda Preston as its new Chairwoman. The vote was held during an urgent meeting of the DCRP County Executive Committee (CEC) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, following the resignation of Chairwoman Lacey Riley on May 6, 2025. Riley had served as Chair since March 2024.

In a strong showing of engagement and commitment, 144 precinct chairs were in attendance for the special election. The vote came down to two candidates—Melinda Preston and David Rettig—with Preston receiving a majority of the votes, winning 78 to 66. During her inspiring remarks, Chairwoman Preston delivered a passionate speech centered on her “why”—her children, her grandchildren, and the future generations of our great state and nation.

She reaffirmed her commitment to keeping Denton County RED, promoting unity within the party, and working tirelessly to elect strong conservative leaders through grassroots organization and voter turnout efforts.

A Christian Conservative Patriot, Preston brings years of experience and proven leadership to the role. She has worked tirelessly on a number of key local, state, and national campaigns, most recently contributing to the victories of Congressman Brandon Gill (TX-26) and Texas State Representative Mitch Little (HD-65). The DCRP is energized by Chairwoman Preston’s vision, dedication, and servant-hearted leadership. With her deep community connections, relentless work ethic, and focus on conservative values, she is well-positioned to lead the party with strength and unity.
