Denton County Republicans went to Dallas for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention and came home with one thing on our minds: it’s time to get to work.
We started the week making our way to the Westin to pick up our credentials. The Texas GOP had everything organized, and as we walked in, picked up our badges, and started seeing familiar faces from across Texas, it began to sink in that we were about to be part of something that had never been done before.
For a lot of us, it felt completely surreal.
We saw people we have watched, supported, worked alongside, and admired in the conservative movement. Brandon Gill. Ken Paxton, Ted Cruz. President Donald Trump. We met Republicans and conservatives from across Texas and around the country, all gathered in Dallas with the same purpose.
There was excitement everywhere, but there was also something more serious underneath it.
This wasn’t just a pep rally. It was a reminder that elections are won by people who are willing to show up and do the work.
For me, that was the biggest thing I brought home.
We are heading into a crucial election, and the people in that arena understood what is at stake. There was a renewed sense of faith, purpose, and responsibility. Whatever brought each person there, everyone knew the work doesn’t end when the lights go down and the convention is over.
That is when the real work begins.
We the People still have a voice in the direction of this country. But having that voice means using it. It means voting. It means volunteering. It means talking to our neighbors. It means showing up when our communities need us.
And for Denton County, the week wasn’t over yet.
We ended it right back here at home with State Representative Mitch Little at his Get Out the Vote Rally at Marty B’s.
I had the privilege of shadowing Mitch and photographing the event, which gave me a different perspective than simply attending. With a camera in my hand, I got to stand back and watch how he interacted with people when there wasn’t a microphone in front of him.
He shook hands. He greeted people as they walked in. He listened. He worked the room.
But one moment stuck with me.
A couple had heard about the rally and decided to come. They were new to Texas and had a lot of questions.
For those few minutes, everything else stopped.
Mitch sat down with them and talked.
I don’t know exactly what was said. It was their conversation, and I respected that. I stepped back and kept taking photos. But watching it happen reminded me that this is what public service is supposed to look like at the local level.
Not just speeches.
Not just rallies.
People talking to people.
Listening to why someone came here, what concerns them, what they hope for their family, and what they want Texas to remain for the next generation.
Those are the moments that don’t always make the headlines, but they matter.
And after a week that took us from a historic national convention in Dallas right back home to Denton County, I was reminded of something else:
None of this happens without you.
The people of Denton County have shown what can happen when we stop working as individuals and start working as a team.
No job is too small. No challenge is too large. Every precinct matters. Every volunteer matters. Every conversation matters. Every door knocked, phone call made, sign delivered, event attended, photo taken, voter registered, and neighbor encouraged to vote moves the ball forward.
Mitch Little may be one of the quarterbacks helping lead this team, but a quarterback cannot win a game alone.
It takes the whole team.
And that team is Denton County.
It has been an honor for me to work with the Denton County Republican Party and to serve the people who make this organization what it is.
If you have ever thought about volunteering, getting involved, or simply finding out where you fit, there may never be a better time to step forward.
There is something happening in Denton County. People are showing up. New volunteers are walking through the doors. Neighbors are meeting neighbors. People who have never been involved before are deciding that sitting on the sidelines is no longer enough.
To everyone who has already stepped up: thank you.
Thank you for your time. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for supporting our Republican candidates from the top of the ticket all the way down to the local offices and precincts that serve our communities every day.
Most importantly, thank you for understanding that representative government does not happen somewhere far away from us.
It starts right here.
In our neighborhoods.
In our precincts.
In our communities.
With people willing to show up.
We cannot do it without you.
One county. One team. And when we work together, there is no limit to what Denton County can accomplish.
